In the United States healthcare has become big business. But as healthcare costs soar higher and higher, good healthcare has become increasingly beyond the reach of many of the working poor. Even many of the middle-income have had their savings wiped out by illnesses that took them beyond the coverage of their insurance. Usually the chronically sick and suffering not only have to put up with the pain of their particular illness, but often they are pushed aside as refuse by a society that looks upon them as misfits. While millions are working full-time without health insurance, even those with insurance may also suffer. According to an Associated Press news report by Deborah Mesce (July 21, 1991), "In small businesses, even one major illness is enough to result in unaffordable premium increases and loss of a company's group plan."
The U.S. government is trying to patch up the ailing health insurance problems, but with little success. Many plans are in the offering, yet even if new plans are put into effect, who is to say that these plans themselves will not bring a whole new set of problems?
Of course, the U.S. is not the only country faced with health problems. Indeed, the problems in the U.S. might appear minute compared to the extreme suffering many people are going though in other parts of the world. Will good healthcare ever become equitable toward all?
Fallen humanity cannot give us much hope. Man does not know how to rule himself. The world needs to be completely cleansed of selfishness before the health problem can be successfully conquered. Satan, the ruler of the world, must be removed. Only then can mankind be brought back to God and be completely healed. John 16:11; 2 Corinthians 4:4; Revelation 12:9; 20:1-3; 21:1-3; Isaiah 11:9.
When God first put man on this earth, he did not put him here with sickness. The first man and woman were healthy, with a perfectly functioning body. It wasn't until Adam disobeyed God, that God turned humanity to death and vanity. The scripture says that the "creation was subjected to vanity, not willingly, but through him subjecting it." (Romans 8:20) It is this subjection to vanity that has wrought the many ills that mankind suffers with.
The scriptures also reveal that there is an expectation within the creation, that is, humankind, that something better will come. Romans 8:19 tells us: "For the earnest expectation of the creation eagerly awaits the revelation of the sons of God." Most of the world do not know what it is that they waiting for. They do not understand God's purposes for allowing their present conditions, nor do they understand that their only real hope is in the Kingdom of God. Thus, they wait ignorantly and impatiently.
While medical science is good at temporarily patching our ailing bodies up, in the end we still suffer and die. Only God's Kingdom will do away with, not only sickness, but even death itself. The promise is that then no one will be sick. (Isaiah 33:24) Notice this: "God will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, nor will mourning, or crying, or pain be any longer ─ for the former things are passed away." ─ Revelation 21:4.
Can you imagine the whole world with no more doctors, no more hospitals, no more funeral homes? How different from today! This is what the whole world is waiting for ignorantly, for these things will come to mankind at the hands of those sons of God, the seed of Abraham who will bless all families of the earth. ─ Galatians 3:26,29; Genesis 22:18; 26:4; 28:14.
